Favorite Flannels

I've had these flannel scraps sewn together in weird shaped rectangles for a very long time, possibly since 2006 when I started sewing.  I finally figured out what to do with them.  I cut them evenly into squares and sewed them all together.  I LOVE them!  The scraps are from my VERY FIRST QUILT ever made.  I sent that quilt to a friend in Minnesota.  The other scraps are from the third quilt I've made.  That pattern was given to me by my sister-in-law.  I love it that I have pieces of both of those memories in this little project!

I think this can add a little color to my very brown furniture

Darn sun...

3rd Annual Birthday Girls Lunch

I moved away from "home" a few years back.  Sadly, I left behind a few good girlfriends.  We have lots in common.  We are all married to wonderful, hard working men.  We are all raising beautiful, healthy children.  We are all born in the spring :-)  We all share a strong faith.  We are all blessed by God in countless ways, and I am truly blessed to call them my friends.  We each are different in many ways too... I'm the only one that quilts!

Even though I only moved 75 miles away, we don't see each other very often.  Three years ago, we decided to, at the very least, celebrate our birthdays together each year with a girls lunch.  The second year we got together, the girls wanted pedicures.  I reluctantly agreed.  It was officially my first and last pedicure ever.  There's a very good possibility that there is a youtube video of me dying in the pedicure chair.  I just don't have the guts to go and search for it.

This year, I decided to make the girls a mini quilt with their last name initial.  Truth be told, I set out to quilt their last name.  Let's just say that that didn't happen.  I have a new book called Play Word Quilts by Tonya Ricucci.  I was late starting the project and I finished the binding the night before our lunch at my son's football game.

Here they are!  What do you think?

I really want to enter one or both of these in the county fair.  I finished them just in time for the fair entry deadline, which is tomorrow.  Am I crazy?  I'm 33 years old.  Do I really need to enter the county fair?  Yet, at the same time, this would be a great way to show my 7 year old little man how entering projects in the fair works, how you get ribbons, why you get ribbons, etc..  They are FAR from perfect.... my husband even pointed out some imperfections.  (don't hate...  in his defense, I asked him to be honest and point out what looked wrong).

I guess I'll decide tomorrow by 8pm if they are headed to the Saunders County Fair or not!

mini log cabin that i love

I cut the fabric out for these last weekend and made the first few stitches.  Now all I have left is the binding.... I made 2 of these mini log cabins at once, which has been lots of fun.  I can't wait to show off the results!  Here are some sneak peeks:
Mini Log Cabin Pattern is from Common Threads in Syracuse

I got very familiar with my iron pressing these babies out!
